Allaah The Almighty Says (what means): {And Allaah has made for you from your homes a place of rest.}[Quran16:80] You have told the truth, O our Lord! The home is a place of rest, stability, comfort, reassurance, safety and tranquility, in which we live, and with which we protect ourselves from the heat of summer and the cold of winter. It is also our shelter in which we take refuge after the trouble and toil of the day.

If a little bird's nest is its shelter, place of rest and abode of reassurance, it would be more worthy for man to have his home an abode of happiness and a source of his pleasure. A home is not only walls, furniture and linen, but it is also a place of worship, an institute, and a place for cordiality and comfort. The spouses fill it with love and affection, and tranquility, calmness and stability shade it.

In the Muslim home, material and sensual rest is combined with spiritual and emotional rest; thereby the home is comprehensive and balanced. Also, Allaah The Almighty has made the home a place of rest for the couple; He has made the husband a source of tranquility for his wife, and the wife a source of tranquility for her husband. Allaah The Almighty Says (what means): {And of His signs is that He created for you from yourselves mates that you may find tranquility in them; and He placed between you affection and mercy. Indeed in that are signs for a people who give thought.} [Quran 30:21] Thus, marriage is a source of tranquility, and homes are places of rest – a favor from Allaah The Almighty which should be appreciated, maintained and preserved.

Some of us might wonder: “Why a Muslim home? Is there a difference between a Muslim and a non-Muslim home?”

Undoubtedly, the Muslim home differs from any other. Its inhabitants carry in their chests a glorious belief which fills their hearts with the light of faith, and this light is reflected on all aspects of their life. A Muslim person should be (an example of the) Quran among people, the same as was the moral character of the Messenger of Allaah, . For this reason, a Muslim home, with its corners, furniture, and the way it is arranged, should express the Islam of its owner.

The Muslim home might be a simple hut, or a graceful palace, and in either there is pleasure, gratitude, satisfaction and living in the shades of the Noble Quran and Sunnah. The family members are happy, not because they have great furniture or expensive fittings, but because happiness springs from their believing hearts and reassured souls. This is because they are pleased with Allaah The Almighty as their Lord, Islam as their religion and Muhammad, , as their Prophet and Messenger.
The houses of the Prophet, , were a good pattern for an Islamic home. As small in size and modest in building as they might have been, they were full of happiness and satisfaction, and remained the highest ideal for the homes of the Companions and any of the Muslims who wished to lay the foundation of a home afterwards.
The houses of the Prophet, , were established on obedience and seeking the satisfaction of Allaah The Almighty, thereby representing the best example of the real Islamic home. Allaah The Almighty Says (what means): {Then is one who laid the foundation of his building on righteousness [with fear] from Allaah and [seeking] His approval better or one who laid the foundation of his building on the edge of a bank about to collapse, so it collapsed with him into the fire of Hell? And Allaah does not guide the wrongdoing people.} [Quran 9:109]
Although the houses of the Prophet, , were as humble, only enough as to satisfy his need, as simple as to cover (the minimum requirements of) his living, they were full of happiness, where their inhabitants were well-pleased with the fate and sustenance endowed to them by Allaah The Almighty, and believing in the statement of the Prophet, : “He, upon whom morning comes while being safe and sound, healthy in his body, and having the sustenance of his day, seems as if the entire world has been granted for him.” [At-Tirmithi and Ibn Maajah]

The houses of the Prophet, , were based on worship and obedience to Allaah The Almighty, where humbleness, simplicity and abstinence from the enjoyment of this worldly life seemed evident. All his houses surrounded the mosque. Some of them were built of palm reeds covered with mud, others of stones piled on top of each other, having their ceiling made of palm reeds.
The home of the Mother of Believers, ‘Aa‘ishah the dearest of his wives to him after Khadeejah consisted of one chamber, built of bricks covered with mud, and another room annexed to it, made of palm reeds, covered with animal hair. Its door had a single wooden post, and its ceiling was low, like all the other houses of the Prophet, . It had simple furniture: a bed of pieces of wood tied with fiber ropes, having a cushion of leather stuffed with fiber; a water-skin; and clay vessels for his food and ablution.

Simplicity and contentment also seemed evident in the homes of the Companions of the Messenger of Allaah, .

The furniture of Faatimah the daughter of the Prophet, , with which she was wed to ‘Ali Ibn Abi Taalib consisted of a mantle of velvet, a cushion of leather stuffed with fiber, a millstone, a water-skin and two jars. That was the furniture of the leader of the women of Paradise, and the daughter of the master of all the prophets, may Allaah exalt their mention. This shows how the houses of the Prophet, , and of his Companions were a good model for the Islamic home.
If such was the state of the houses of the Prophet, , and his Companions this does not mean that Islam impedes one from being blessed in a graceful spacious home; on the contrary, according to Islam, that is a sustenance, favor and grace bestowed by Allaah The Almighty upon whomever He pleases. Allaah The Almighty Says (what means): {Say, “Who has forbidden the adornment of Allaah which He has produced for His servants and the good [lawful] things of provision?”} [Quran 7:32] The Messenger of Allaah, , said: “Four things bring about happiness: a righteous woman (i.e., wife), a spacious residence, a good neighbor, and a comfortable means of transport.” [Al-Haakim] Man then has to utilize this pleasure in all that is good, for he would be held accountable about it on the Day of Judgment as confirmed by Allaah The Almighty in the verse (which means): {Then you will surely be asked that Day about pleasure.} [Quran 102:8]

Like other human beings, the Muslim family inclines to possess the best, the most spacious, the prettiest, and the richest of homes. Allaah The Almighty Says (what means): {Beautified for people is the love of that which they desire - of women and sons, heaped-up sums of gold and silver, fine branded horses, and cattle and tilled land. That is the enjoyment of worldly life, but Allaah has with Him the best return.} [Quran 3:14]

The Muslim family knows well that real happiness is to make the home, whether it is small or large, a garden full of faith, satisfied with contentment, shaded with tranquility and reassurance; and to have its members adopt high morals and upright conduct. It perceives that in whichever state it might be, it is living in a favor bestowed by Allaah The Almighty for which gratitude is due. Gratitude for a favor develops, purifies and proliferates it as confirmed by Allaah; Allaah The Almighty (what means): {If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor].} [Quran 14:7]

The Muslim family neither boasts nor shows pride over others because of the favors of Allaah The Almighty bestowed upon it. It always shows the bounty and favor conferred by Allaah The Almighty upon it in response to His statement (which means): {But as for the favor of your Lord, report [it].} [Quran 93:11] And, acting upon the statement of the Messenger of Allaah, : “Indeed, Allaah likes to see the signs of His favor on His slave.” [At-Tirmithi and Al-Haakim]

But, at the same time, the Muslim family should not engage in worldly pleasures and neglect obedience to Allaah The Almighty, nor be mainly concerned with their house in this worldly life, which diverts them from working for their house in Paradise, Allaah willing. To this meaning a poet refers, by saying that one shall have no abode to reside in after death other than the one he built before his death. If he built it well, his residence (in the Hereafter) would be good; and if he built it with evil, he would fail.
Once, ‘Ali Ibn Abi Taalib passed by a man who was building a house, thereupon he said to him, “You were dead before you came to life, and in a short while you will be dead [yet again]. You are building a house for the perishing abode [i.e. this worldly life], so build a house for the eternal abode [i.e. the Hereafter as well].”

Blessed be the Muslim family if it is to have the world in its hand and not in its heart; and blessed be it if it is to utilize all things surrounding it correctly in such a way as to help it obey Allaah The Almighty, acting upon the following wisdom, “Work for your worldly life as if you would live forever, and work for your Hereafter as if you would die tomorrow.” [Ibn Al-Mubaarak in Az-Zuhd]

To talk about the Muslim home, its components and furniture, does not mean that all those specifications should be comprised in every home. But, it is an ideal we ask Allaah The Almighty to give to every Muslim on the face of the earth.

The main point lies not in the walls and furniture of the house so much as it lies in its inhabitants. Hence, every family member could bring about happiness and satisfaction to his household with the smallest thing available to him. The faithful believer is intelligent and prudent, as the Messenger of Allaah, , said: “The sagacious one is he who holds himself accountable [for his deeds], and works for [the life] after death; and the incompetent is he who subjugates his self to its fancies and has hopeful expectations from Allaah.”[Ahmad, At-Tirmithi and Ibn Maajah]

The way to a happy family

Wisdom provides us with the capacity to solve real life problems. So, acquiring wisdom becomes a must if we want to live meaningful lives. As we live through life and its experiences, it is vital that we reflect on such experiences to make our subsequent steps in life easier. As Immanuel Kant, a famous philosopher said that “Science is organized knowledge. Wisdom is organized life.”

So, if wisdom enables a person to make more sound decisions, take a shortcut path to success, re calibrate values for the better, and simply live a better life, then why not spend time reflecting on our own experiences as well as learning from others? As Will Durant, a renowned philosopher and Pulitzer Prize winner stated, “A wise man can learn from another man’s experience; a fool cannot learn even from his own.”

The words of the Quran and teachings of our Prophet Muhammad guide us to a wealth of wisdom and knowledge. In fact, Allah calls Quran the “Book of wisdom” in many places in the Quran. He says: “A.L.R. These are the ayats of the Book of wisdom.” (Yunus, Chapter #10, Verse #1). The Almighty also says: “We have sent it down as an Arabic Quran, in order that ye may learn wisdom.” (Yusuf, Chapter #12, Verse #2)

Quran emphasizes the importance of wisdom throughout its text. Allah sent prophets and messengers to propagate that wisdom. He says in one of such verses: “A similar (favor have ye already received) is that We have sent among you a Messenger of your own, rehearsing to you Our Signs, and sanctifying you, and instructing you in Scripture and wisdom, and in new knowledge.” (Al-Baqara, Chapter #2, Verse #151)”

In its text, Quran also teaches wisdom through the words of a person named Luqman. Although not a prophet, Allah had granted him enormous wisdom. He was wise enough to have an entire chapter named after him. He was a pious person and according to the Quran was granted wisdom by Allah. As Allah says in the Quran: And indeed We bestowed upon Luqman AlHikmah (wisdom and religious understanding, etc.) saying: “Give thanks to Allah,” and whoever gives thanks, he gives thanks for (the good of) his ownself. And whoever is unthankful, then verily, Allah is All Rich (Free of all wants), Worthy of all praise. (Luqman: 12)

In his book “Stories of the Prophet”, Ibn Katheer writes that Luqman’s real name was known as “Luqman Ibn Anqa8 Ibn Sadun” or according to some “Luqman Ibn Tharan” who was from among the people of Aylah (Jerusalem) (Stated by As-Suhaili from Ibn Jarir and Al-Qutaibi). Some accounts describe him as an Ethiopian slave who worked as a carpenter. Because of his wisdom people went to him to settle their affairs and therefore he was also known to be a judge.

Although Quran makes no reference regarding him being as a prophet, it is narrated by some as described by Ibn Katheer in his book “Stories of the Prophet” that he was offered to become one. Ibn Katheer mentions, Sa’id said: I heard Qatadah as saying: It was said to Luqman: “How did you prefer wisdom to Prophethood when you were enabled to choose between them?” He said: “If Allah were to assign me with Prophethood, I would accept it and try hard to win His Pleasure, but He enabled me to choose. I feared of being too weak for Prophethood, so I chose wisdom.”

Luqman’s Wisdom

The following are the words of wisdom of Luqman as described in the Quran. Later, another section quotes his wisdom as narrated by other reliable narrators as mentioned by Ibn Katheer in his book “Stories of the Prophets”.

Luqman’s wisdom in the Quran

Luqman’s wisdom in the Quran is described in the context of him explaining it to his son. It is described in the Quran in the following verses.

  • Regarding not to associate anyone in the worship and oneness of Allah

And (remember) when Luqman said to his son when he was advising him: “O my son! Join not in worship others with Allah. Verily! Joining others in worship with Allah is a great Zoolm (wrong) indeed. (Quran: Luqman: 13)

  • Being dutiful to ones parents

And We have enjoined on man (to be dutiful and good) to his parents. His mother bore him in weakness and hardship upon weakness and hardship, and his weaning is in two years give thanks to Me and to your parents, unto Me is the final destination. (Quran: Luqman: 14)

  • Being dutiful to ones parents except where they tell you to deviate from the Right path –

But if they (both) strive with you to make you join in worship with Me others that of which you have no knowledge, then obey them not, but behave with them in the world kindly, and follow the path of him who turns to Me in repentance and in obedience. Then to Me will be your return, and I shall tell you what you used to do. (Quran: Luqman: 15)

  • Every person is accountable for everything that he does –

“O my son! If it be (anything) equal to the weight of a grain of mustard seed, and though it be in a rock, or in the heavens or in the earth, Allah will bring it forth. Verily, Allah is Subtle (in bringing out that grain), WellAware (of its place). (Quran: Luqman: 16)

Advices Of Luqman The wise To His Son ( For All Muslims )

  • Enjoining Prayers

“O my son! perform AsSalat (prayers), enjoin (people) for Al-Maroof (Islamic Monotheism and all that is good), and forbid (people) from AlMunkar (i.e. disbelief in the Oneness of Allah, polytheism of all kinds and all that is evil and bad), and bear with patience whatever befalls you. Verily! These are some of the important commandments ordered by Allah with no exemption. (Quran: Luqman: 17)

  • Do not be arrogant and proud

“And turn not your face away from men with pride, nor walk in insolence through the earth. Verily, Allah likes not each arrogant boaster. (Quran: Luqman: 18)

  • Be humble and lower your voice

“And be moderate (or show no insolence) in your walking, and lower your voice. Verily, the harshest of all voices is the voice (braying) of the donkey.”  (Quran: Luqman: 19)

Other words of wisdom from Luqman (not narrated in the Quran) [ibn Katheer]

  • Luqman on being granted respect and honor

Narrated Ibn Wahb: I was told by ‘Abdullah Ibn ‘Ayyash Al-Fityani after’ Umar, the freed slave of ‘Afrah as saying: “A man came to Luqman, the wise and asked: Are you Luqman? Are you the slave of so and so? He said: “Yes!” The man said: You are the black shepherd! Luqman said: As for my black color, it is obviously apparent, so what makes you so astonished? The man said: You became frequently visited by the people who pleasingly accept your judgments! Luqman said: 0 cousin! If you do what I am telling you, you will be like this. The man said: What is it? Luqman said: Lowering my gaze, watching my tongue, eating what is lawful, keeping my chastity, undertaking my promises, fulfilling my commitments, being hospitable to guests, respecting my neighbors, and discarding what does not concern me. All these made me the one you are looking at.”

Lowering of the gaze usually refers to not looking at men / women (other than your spouse) with a bad desire and to look at them only for valid reasons as prescribed in the religion. Refer to Islam-qa.com for detailed explanation on this topic.

  • Luqman on the value of Wisdom

Narrated Damurah after As-Sariy Ibn Yahia as saying: Luqman said to his son: “O my son! Verily, wisdom has brought the indigent to the courts of kings. ”

  • Luqman on propagating wisdom to others and to take it seriously when given by others

I was told by my father after ‘Amr Ibn ‘Uthman after Damurah Ibn Hafs Ibn ‘Umar as saying: “Luqman placed a bag of mustards beside him and started to advise his son, giving him with every piece of advice a mustard till it all ran out. He said: O my son! I gave you advice that if a mountain was given, it would split………”

  • Luqman on the need to have a pleasing tongue and sound heart

Yazid Ibn Hamn and Waki’ told us after Abul AShhab after Khalid Ar-Rab’i as saying: “Luqman was an Ethiopian slave who worked as a carpenter. One day, his master ordered him to slaughter a goat and bring him the most pleasant and delicious two parts thereof. Luqman did so and brought him the tongue and heart. The master asked: Did not you find anything more pleasant than these? Luqman said: No! After a while, the master ordered him to slaughter a goat and to throw the most malignant two parts thereof. Luqman slaughtered the goat and threw the tongue and heart. The master exclaimed and said: I ordered you to bring me the most delicious parts thereof and you brought me the tongue and heart, and I ordered you to throwaway the most malignant parts thereof and you threw the tongue and heart, how can this be? Luqman said: Nothing can be more pleasing than these if they were good, and nothing can be more malicious than these if they were malignant.”

  • Luqman on “Speech is silver and slince is golden”

Luqman said to his son: “O my son! I have never regretted because of keeping silent. If words are silver, silence is golden.”

  • Luqman on the need to have kindness, mercy and love for others

Abu Mu’awiyah told us after Hisham Ibn ‘Urwah after his father as saying: “Wisdom dictates: O my son: Let your speech be good and your face be smiling, you will be more loved by the people than those who give them provisions.” And, he said: “It is stated in the wisdom -or the Torah – : “Kindness is the head of wisdom.” And, he said: “It is stated in the Torah: “As you show mercy (to others), mercy will be shown to you.”

  • Luqman on giving

And, he said: “It is stated in the wisdom: “You will gain what you give (or, harvest what you grow).”

  • Luqman on friendships

And, he said: “It is stated in the wisdom: “Love your friend and the friend of your father.”

  • Luqman on patience, knowledge, and goodness

`Abdur Razzaq told us after Mu’amir after Ayyub after Abu Qulabah as saying: Luqman was once asked: Who is the best one in terms of patience? He said: It is the one who practices no harm after observing patience. Those who asked him said: Who is the best one in terms of knowledge? He said: It is he who adds to his own knowledge through the knowledge of others. They asked: Who is the best from among the whole people? He said: It is the wealthy. They said: Is it the one who has properties and riches? He said: No! But, it is the one if whose good was sought, he would not hold it back or prevent it. And, it is the one who does not need anything from others.

  • Luqman on the need to keep good company and to consult scholars

‘Abdullah Ibn Ahmed said: I was told by Al-Hakam Ibn Abu Zuhair Ibn Musa after Al-Faraj Ibn Fudalah after Abu Sa’id as saying: Luqman said to his son: “O my son! Let only the pious men eat your food, and consult the scholars over your affairs.”

Finally, wisdom in matters is one of the blessings that Allah grants to His creation. The Almighty says in the Quran: “He grants Hikmah to whom He pleases, and he, to whom Hikmah is granted, is indeed granted abundant good. But none remember (will receive admonition) except men of understanding.” (Quran: Al-Baqara: 269)

Note: Hikmah here refers to “Wisdom”

Salama sister! I am 15 now and I'm really trying to pray... everytime i start to pray something happens and i stopped. And when i pray example fajr and duhr i won't pray asr and the rest of the prayers. Please help me find a way to pray forever!
How to keep your 5 prayer forever in time ?
Wa alaikum salam ♥
It all comes down to self-discipline and your Fear of Allah SWT and the afterlife ♥ You seem sincere so Insha’Allah you will get there, Ameen ♥

When you start making Salah (and you haven’t been praying for a long while) it probably will be a little difficult at first, but it becomes easier as time goes on Insha’Allah ♥

If you keep at it, you will find it becoming more easier in a short while Insha’Allah ♥

According to a hadeeth narrated by Mu’aadh ibn Jabal (may Allaah be pleased with him), the Messenger of Allaah  (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Shall I not tell you of the head of the whole matter and its pillar and top?” I [Mu’aadh] said, “Yes, O Messenger of Allaah.” He said, “The head of the matter is Islam, its pillar is prayer and its top is jihad.”
(Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 2616; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Tirmidhi, 2110.)

Without a pillar, the head will fall. Therefore, if we do not pray, it is like our “Islam” falls, May Allah Protect us all, Ameen. Always remember how important it is to pray, and when the times come to pray, you will do it Insha’Allah ♥

It was narrated that Jaabir ibn ‘Abd-Allaah (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allaah  (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Between a man and shirk [associating others with Allaah] and kufr [disbelief] there stands his giving up prayer.” (Narrated by Muslim, 82)

If you have your family living with you who pray, then when they get up to pray, you should ask them to force you up and you all should pray together ♥ This will help you pray more often.

Whenever the prayer times come in, just force yourself up ♥ prayer brings happiness and tranquillity and Allah SWT forgives us when we pray ♥ when you realize this and accept it into your life, you will be excited and run to make salah and feel joy whenever you do, Insha’Allah ♥
Have a prayer time alert on your phone or radio, if there is no Adthaan heard in the area you live in ♥ This will alert you of the prayer times, and therefore you have no excuse not to pray ♥

Make-up all the prayers you miss, this way you will find it easier to pray it all on time ♥ and therefore you will be motivated to pray it on time because it is easier and has more barakah then it is to miss prayers and have to make them up.

“So woe unto those performers of Salaah (prayers) (hypocrites), those who delay their Salaah (prayer from their stated fixed times)”
Quran (107:4-5)

Salah is a blessing to mankind, not a hardship ♥ It is an enjoyment and not a burden ♥ it is a relief and forgiveness, not a hardship ♥

Love your salah ♥ because it is something to be loved, enjoyed, cherished and protected ♥

Insha’Allah ♥

Before you start praying, stand on your Musala and take a few seconds to breathe and just sit ♥ prepare yourself mentally, physically and spiritually and breathe and feel calm wash over you Insha’Allah ♥ and then pray ♥ don’t just rush into praying and rush out of it ♥ when you take a few deep breaths for a few seconds before you start praying, you will see the beautiful difference it makes to your salah, Insha’Allah ♥

If you rush your salah, you will make rushing your salah a habit; and your mind will register salah as something that needs to be rushed, and this is not good as you will never enjoy it and it will become a burden and barakah will be lost, May Allah SWT protect us all ♥ When we go into salah with a humble and relaxed frame of mind, we will pray in a relaxed and humble frame of mind and Allah SWT increases our tranquillity, emaan and blesses us in every aspect in our life, Insha’Allah Ameen ♥

Just by praying, we become wiser, our emaan increases, we gain control over ourselves, Allah SWT blesses our life and answers our Du’as and Allah SWT opens our hearts, forgives our sins and accepts us into Jannah ♥ Insha’Allah ♥ the list of benefits we experience and gain just by salah is a list that goes on forever, Ya Rub ♥
Insha’Allah I have answered your question ♥

If you do not understand something or would like additional details, please let me know and I will be happy to provide, Insha’Allah ♥

Thank you for your amazing question ♥

How to keep your 5 prayer forever in time ?

Abdullah Ibn ‘Abbās (RA) narrates;

I heard Muhammad ﷺ reciting these du’ās one night, after he had completed his Tahajjud salāt:

1. O Allāh! I ask You of Your Mercy by which You give guidance to my heart, by which You make my work easy, and removed my distressed condition by it, and manage my issues in my absence by it. And give exaltation and honor by Your Mercy; and clean my actions (from hypocrisy and infidelity) by Your Mercy; and put that thing in my heart, which is correct and suitable for me; and whatever I like, grant me by Your Mercy; and protect me from all evil by Your Mercy.

2. O Allāh! Give me that belief and faith which there may not be any infidelity and a Mercy enabling me to achieve the blessings of Your gifts in this world and the Hereafter.

3. O Allāh! I ask of You to give me a conviction that Your Decree is the very fulfillment of my aims, and an entertainment which is offered to martyrs, and a life of the fortunate, and Your help over enemies.
10 Duas Of Our Prophet Mohamed (PBUH) After Tahajjud Salāt
4. O Allāh! I place before You my needs, though my understanding is limited, and my actions are weak, hence I am badly in need of Your Mercy. O the Maker of affairs and Healer of the hearts! As You by Your power keep the oceans (running together) separate from each other (that the saltish remains separate from the sweet and sweet remains separate from saltish); so I request You to keep me away from the punishment of the Hell-Fire, and the lamentations of the one about to perish, and from the punishment of the grave.

5. O Allāh! I ask You of that goodness which is beyond my understanding and intention, and which I did not even ask. However, You promised this to anyone of Your creation, or any goodness which You want to give to any of Your slaves. I desire this and ask You for it by Your Mercy, O Sustainer of the universe!

6. O You of firm promises and Master of good deeds! I ask for Your peace on the Day of Judgement, and Paradise on the Day of Eternity, to be among Yours favorites and regular attendants of Your Court; frequently bowing and prostrating and fulfilling their promises. You are Most Kind and Most Loving, and no doubt You do what You will.

٧- اللهـم اجعلنا هـادين مهتدين عير ضالين ولامضلين سلما لاوليانك وعدوالاعداىك نحب بحبك احبك و نعادى بعداواتك من خالفك،
7. O Allāh! Make me one who is guided aright, and guides others aright. Do not misguide me, and do not make me misguide others. I may be in peace with Your friends and enemy of Your enemies. Those who love You, I should love them for that love of Yours, and those who are against You, I should have enmity with them due to their enmity with You.

٨ - اللهم هذا ألدعاءوعليك الاجابةوهـذاالجهـد و عليك التكلان
8. O Allāh! It is for us to supplicate, and for You to accept. This is my effort and reliance is on You.

9. O Allāh! Put Nūr (light) in my heart, and make my grave illuminated; and grant me Nūr in front of me, Nūr at my back, Nūr on my right, Nūr on my left, Nūr above me, Nūr below me, (Your Nūr be around me), and Nūr in my ears, Nūr in my eyes, Nūr in every hair of mine, Nūr in my skin, Nūr in my flesh, Nūr in my blood, and Nūr in every bone of mine. O Allāh! Make my Nūr enormous, grant me Nūr, and make Nūr for me.

GHUSL is the Islamic method of washing the body to obtain purification from "Hadathe Akbar" or "Greater Impurity".
The following is the Sunnat method of performing Ghusl:

1) Wash both hands to the wrists. The hands should NOT be dipped into the basin of water for washing. Water should either run from the tap or be poured from a container.
2) The private parts and the surrounding areas must be washed, whether there is impurity or not.
3) Wash the part of the body where there may be some impurity.
4) Make a FULL WUDHU. If Ghusl is being made where the water pools around the feet, then delay washing the feet until the END of the Ghusl.
5) After Wudhu, pour water over the head THREE times.
6) Then, pour water over the right shoulder THREE times.
7) Then, pour water over the left shoulder THREE times. The water should be poured in such a way that the ENTIRE body is thoroughly drenched.
8) If the feet were not washed at the time of Wudhu, then wash them now. While pouring the water, rub well to ensure that no part of the body remains dry.

The FARDH acts of GHUSL
The Ghusl has three compulsory acts and they are as follows:
1) Rinsing the mouth thoroughly, ensuring that the water reaches the back of the throat.
2) Taking water into the nostrils to the limit of the tender or fleshy part of the nose.
3) Drenching the WHOLE body - from head to toe - thoroughly, ensuring that no part of the body is left dry.
If the above points are carried out then the Ghusl is complete and one is purified.

Absolute care must be taken to ensure that the Fardh acts are not left out, as the Ghusl will not be valid.

The SUNNAT acts of GHUSL
1) Make niyyat (intention) for Ghusl
2) Wash both hands
3) Wash the private parts
4) Make Wudhu
5) Pour water over head thrice
6) Pour water over right shoulder thrice
7) Pour water over left shoulder thrice

Surah Al-Fajr

By the Dawn; And by the ten nights; And by the even and the odds , And by the night when it departs, Is there not in it an oath for man of understanding? Have you not seen, what did your Lord with Aad? The people of Iram excessively tall, The like of whom have not been created in cities. And with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the valley. And with Firawn (Pharoah) who pilloried. Those who transgressed in the cities. And spread mischief therein. Therefore your Lord let down upon them the whip of torment with force. Undoubtedly, nothing is absent from the sight of Your Lord. But man, when his Lord tries him and honours him and bestows favour on him, he says, 'my Lord hashonoured me'.But when He tries him and straitens his livelihood, he says, 'my Lord has disgraced me. Not so, but you do not honour the orphan. And you urge not one another to feed the poor, And devour the heritage of others greedily, And you love wealth exceedingly. Yes, when the earth is completely broken into pieces. And the Command of your Lord comes and also the angels in rows after rows, And Hell is brought that day, on that day man will think, but now where is the time for thinking? He will say, O would that I had sent forward some good works in my life. So on that day none torments any like His torment. And nor anyone binds like His binding. 'O you peaceful soul.' Return to your Lord well pleased with Him, and He well pleased with you. So, enter you among My chosen bondmen. And come to My Garden.

To Hold Meetings on Ashura Day
Holding of religious meetings during the first 10 days of Muharram, specially on Ashura day, is lawful (Ja’iz) and it caries a lot of reward. In these meetings, speeches are made about the heroic deeds and virtues of the martyrs of Karbala. These meetings crease a sense of stability, peace and endurance in the hearts and minds of Muslims. On such occasions speeches should also include stories form the lives of Khulfa-e-rashedean (Rightful Caliphs) and other As-haabs (companions).
Fatiha and Isal-e-Sawaab
Fatiha and Isal-e-Sawaab is a way of sending rewards of good deeds to the souls of our beloved Muslim realtives, friends, scholars, Saints and Prophets who are no longer with us. Fatiha and Isal-e-Sawaab is lawful (Ja’iz) and strictly in accordance with the tenets of Islam. Some people, due to their ignorance, consider Fatiha and Isal-e-Sawaab as Haraam and Bida’at, but they are not right. On Ashura day, Muslims make Fatiha and Isal-e-Sawaab for the souls of Imam Hussain (Allah be pleased with him) and other martyrs of Karbala. For this purpose Muslims prepare sweet dishes, cold drinks (sharbat), fruit etc, and distribute these among relatives, friends and the poor.
Fasting on Ashura Day
Fasting on Ashura day carries a great reward. It is better to fast both 9th and 10th of Muharram. Our beloved Prophet Muhammad (Peace and blessing of Allah be upon him) has said that this is the most rewarding fast next to Ramadhan. Our beloved Prophet has also said that fasting on Ashura day will compensate for one year’s sin.
(Tirmidhi Sharif)
It is said that when Prophet Nuh (Allah’s blessings be upon him) landed safely on mount Judi, after the flood, he along with others, including birds and animals, observed a fast on Ashura day to thank Allah
(Tafsir-e-Sawi)
Hazrat Hafsah (Allah be pleased with her) is reported to have said that our beloved Prophet practised the following four things without fail:
1. Fasting on Ashura day
2. Fasting during the first nine days of Zil-Hajj
3. Fasting for 3 days in every month (13th, 14th and 15th of each Islamic month)
4. Two rakaat sunnah prayer of Fajr.
 (Nasai Sharif)
Hazrat Ibne Umar (Allah be pleased with him) has reported that our beloved Prophet Muhammad (Peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said that fasting on Ashura day is equivalent to the reward of fasting for one year.
(Ma Ssbata Bis-Sunnah)
In  the light of the above references all Muslims should observe fast on Ashura day.
'Ashura' commemorates the day that Allah saved the Children of Israel from Pharaoh.
Fasting on Muharram 10, known as the Day of 'Ashura', expiates for the sins of the past year. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived in Madinah in 622 CE, he found that the Jews there fasted on Muharram 10 and asked them the reason for their fasting on this day. They said," This is a blessed day. On this day Allah saved the Children of Israel from their enemy (in Egypt) and so Prophet Musa [Moses] fasted on this day giving thanks to Allah."
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said,
"We are closer to Musa than you are."
He fasted on that day and commanded Muslims to fast on this day. (Al-Bukhari) The following year, Allah commanded the Muslims to fast the month of Ramadan, and the fasting of 'Ashura' became optional. It is also reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to fast on the ninth and tenth. Ibn 'Abbas reported: The Messenger of Allah fasted on the day of 'Ashura' and ordered the people to fast on it. The people said, "O Messenger of Allah, it is a day that the Jews and Christians honor." The Prophet said, "When the following year comes, Allah willing, we shall fast on the ninth." The death of the Prophet came before the following year. Thus, according to scholars, you may choose to fast 'Ashura' on three days (ninth, tenth, and eleventh); two days (ninth and tenth); or one day only (the tenth). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Fasting the day of 'Ashura' (is of great merits), I hope that Allah will accept it as an expiation for (the sins committed in) the previous year." (Muslim) But this expiation of minor sins comes only if you avoid major sins. It is a big mistake to rely on fasting a single day to "wipe your slate clean." If you neglect your daily Prayers or the fast of Ramadan, or if you backbite, lie, commit adultery or other major sins, fasting on 'Ashura' alone will not atone for your sins.

The great scholar Ibn Al-Qayyim Al-Jawziyya (b. 691 AH/1292 CE) wrote: This misguided person does not know that fasting in Ramadan and praying five times a day are much more important than fasting on the Day of Arafah and the Day of 'Ashura', and that they expiate for the sins between one Ramadan and the next, or between one Friday and the next, so long as one avoids major sins. But they cannot expiate for minor sins unless one also avoids major sins; when the two things are put together, they have the strength to expiate for minor sins. Among those deceived people may be one who thinks that his good deeds are more than his sins, because he does not pay attention to his bad deeds or check on his sins, but if he does a good deed he remembers it and relies on it.
This is like the one who seeks Allah's forgiveness with his tongue (that is, by words only), and glorifies Allah by saying "subhan Allah" one hundred times a day, then he backbites about the Muslims and slanders their honor, and speaks all day long about things that are not pleasing to Allah. This person is always thinking about the virtues of his saying "subhan Allah" and saying "la ilaha illa Allah" but he pays no attention to what has been reported concerning those who backbite, tell lies, and slander others, or commit other sins of the tongue. They are completely deceived. (Al-Mawsu'ah Al-Fiqhiyyah, part 31, Ghuroor) You may hear of some customs associated with 'Ashura' such as cooking and eating certain foods on that day, wearing kohl or henna, or even merrymaking. Others consider this a day of mourning and wailing in honor of the Prophet's grandson Al-Husayn, who was killed in battle on that day. The scholar Ibn Taymiyah (b. 661 AH/1263 CE) stated that all of these are bid'ahs (reprehensible innovations) that should be avoided. Take advantage of this opportunity to bring yourself closer to Allah on 'Ashura' by fasting and praying for forgiveness.
