Is the Dua on Arafah just for those performing Hajj?
Question: Is the answering of the Dua and the virtue of the Dua on the day of Arafah —O Shaykh Salih—specific for those performing Hajj or is it general for others as well?

Shaykh Salih Fawzan: The Dua on the day of Arafah is general for those performing Hajj and others as well, but for those performing Hajj more specifically because they are in a virtuous place, and they are wearing the garment of Ihram and standing on Arafah. Thus the Dua is more affirmed as it relates to them and the virtue is greater for them than it is for those not performing Hajj. As for the rest of the people those who are not performing Hajj then Dua
Dua on Arafah
Dua on Arafah
is also prescribed for them, and they should strive in making Dua on that day so they can share this virtue with their brothers performing Hajj.

And the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said:
خير الدعاء دعاء عرفة وخير ما قلت أنا والنبيون من قبلي لا إله إلا الله وحده لا شريك له له الملك وله الحمد وهو على كل شيء قدير

The best of supplication is the supplication of the Day of Arafah. And the best of what I and the Prophets before me have said is: None has the right to be worshipped but Allah, alone, without partner, to Him belongs all that exists, and to Him belongs the praise, and He is powerful over all things.
(At-Tirmidhi 3585)

Thus Dua is prescribed on the day of Arafah for those performing Hajj and other than them, but it is more affirmed and more virtuous for those on Hajj due to the rites they are involved in and the great virtuous place they are at. As for the virtue of the time then this is shares by those on Hajj and other than them. As for the place this is specific for those on Hajj while they are standing on Arafah.

No woman needs to put up with violence from her husband, no fatwa nor Imam will say that. Sometimes culture, fear and the sense of being alone or judged is the reason most woman don’t seek help and or divorce.

If a man uses Islam to justify his violence then he has not understood Islam and worse has said of Allah which he knows not.
Domestic violence against women
Domestic violence against women
To all men who have done this, seek help from Allah first then seek the help of a professional councilor. It’s not embarrassing walking into a marriage and domestic violence councilor rather the embarrassment is when police escort you away from your family and your children looking on.

May Allah safeguard our sisters and guide our brothers.

The prophet Muhammad peace be upon him has ordered and advised the husband to be kind and treat well the wife. More so he said that the best of men are those who are kind to their wives.

A man came to Ḥasan al-Baṣrī رحمه الله and complained to him about famine and drought so he said to him: ‘Seek forgiveness from Allāh’, then a second man came to him and complained about (his) need and poverty so it was said to him: ‘Seek forgiveness from Allāh’, then a third (man) came to him and complained about lack of offspring so it was said to him: ‘Seek forgiveness from Allāh’, the people were amazed by his answers so (he) explained to them through the understanding of Qur'ān [71:10-12]:

Seek Allāh's Forgiveness
Seek Allāh's Forgiveness
“I said (to them): ‘Ask forgiveness from your Lord; Verily, He is Oft-Forgiving; He will send rain to you in abundance. And give you increase in wealth and children, and bestow on you gardens and bestow on you rivers’.”

O how beautiful and true this is, may Allāh have mercy upon him, amazing understanding of Allāh’s Speech.

We are about to begin the holiest ten days of the year. Unfortunately many of us don’t realize that these ten days are even holier than the days of Ramadan.
the holiest ten days of the year
the holiest ten days of the year

In a hadeeth, we learn that doing good deeds in these days is more beloved to Allah than ANY other good deeds, except for the deed of sacrificing all of one’s property and life for Allah.

Just imagine what that means! Doing good in these ten days can allow us to reach the highest of the high. It can enter us in the ranks of the righteous, and cause our sins to be forgiven.

Some of the deeds we should do in these days:

1) Hajj (for those fortunate to go!)
2) Dhikr, especially the kalima
3) Fasting, especially on the 9th, for it forgives the sins of the past and future year
4) All other good deeds, such as salat, charity, repentance, reciting Quran, dua, etc.

The stories that make up the surah are:

1. The Seven Sleepers
2. The Owners of the Gardens
3. Moses and Khidr
4. Dhul-Qarnain and his Conquests

Surat Al-Kahf stories
Surat Al-Kahf stories

The first story of this surah revolves around time. It doesn’t take too much reflection to understand that the length of a man’s life is his first priority. Man’s first goal is to achieve sustenance to continue his existence on earth. God himself, through the incident of the 7 sleepers, showed how time, and ultimately life, is in the hands of God. It is interesting that God Almighty chose 7 youths to convey this reality. If their physical appearance showed signs of age, this reality would not have made such an impact on those who came across them. It further conveys the idea that a long life isn’t really worth living if one does not possess the freshness and vigor's of youth.
The next story is that of the Owners of the garden. The primary angle from which this surah expounds on the theme is that of WEALTH. The Quran speaks about how men become so competitive over attaining wealth that they forget who granted them wealth in the first place. Further, they become so deluded into thinking that the wealth they receive is a sign that they are superior, to the extent that even if God and accountability existed, it would only show that God had a certain preference for them, i.e. it was their birth-right. This is how they justify their own actions in light of the call of their own moral conscience. The Quran also speaks about God’s will, just as it did earlier in the surah when saying to the Prophet (S):

The next story, that of Moses and Khidr, discusses another aspect that man desires so heavily, and that is KNOWLEDGE. Moses (AS) boasted that nobody could compete with him (AS) in this respect, so God Almighty, to teach Musa (AS) certain lessons, told him to proceed to Khidr (AS) and follow him for a certain period. An interesting point in this surah is regarding the fish. While Musa (AS) boasted about his knowledge, it was only when he told his servant to bring them some food, and the attendant brought light to the fact that the fish disappeared, did Moses (AS) remember the fish. This is actually an irony, considering Musa (AS) was boasting about his superior knowledge, but he forgot to remember a significant fact regarding the journey. This fact itself was a sign of God that was necessary to the journey in the first place. The Quran also speaks about knowledge from the dimension of patience. Knowledge and Patience go hand in hand. To possess absolute knowledge of the workins behind reality would essentially nullify the purpose of the test. It further prevent mans from cultivating his own moral character.

The Quran refers to POWER and dominion. This story speaks about the limitations man can achieve in dominion. DHul-Qarnain, despite being a noble and pious person and being blessed by God in his dominion, was also limited in the extent of his conquests. In one conquest, he was halted by a geographical limitation, that of the sea. In another conquest, he came across a people who could not understand the communciations of the King nor could they speak to him. Hhis dominion in this area was essentially useless, despite him having power over the people. As far as Gog and Magog, Dhul-Qarnain could only establish a barrier to prevent the assaults of Dhul-Qarnain, i.e. he could not maintain an army in that regions, and that barrier too, as Dhul-Qarnain pointed out, would ultimately collapse despite being built with the most formidable of materials. When humanity, including Gog and Magog. will be called forth by God, even the barrier that was sent to keep Gog and Magog from passing through the mountains will collapse as the people will spill forth into the regions like waves. Even the strongest of limitations in this world are subject to the will of God. Another interesting aside to this story is that Dhul-Qarnain, despite being an able-king, had to employ the services of the people he was to protect. His army alone could not sufficiently do the job.

So there it is, in summary. The Quran beuatifully summarizes the totality of man’s existence from 4 different angles:

TIME, WEALTH, KNOWLEDGE, POWER

Before even giving evidence to why music is prohibited in Islam let us ponder over a few questions.. Ask yourself (if you listen to music), how often do you read or listen to the Qur'an? When you are bored with nothing to do, do you turn on your iPod and listen to music or the Qur'an? When you get in your car, do you turn on Kiss100 or play the Qur'an? When you’re walking/traveling on public transport, are you listening to the Qur'an or music?

why music is prohibited in Islam
why music is prohibited in Islam
When you enter the shower what comes to mind, the Qur'an or music? [As a side point, it is impermissible to recite the Qur'an in the bathroom]. These questions should be pondered over and make you realize if you are neglecting the Qur'an or not. I am not saying the Qur'an is like music. However, what I am saying is that both cannot reside in the heart. Something pure mixed with something impure cannot co-exist. Nothing else is needed to realize why music is problematic.

Surah Al-Furqan, Verse 30:
وَقَالَ الرَّسُولُ يَا رَبِّ إِنَّ قَوْمِي اتَّخَذُوا هَٰذَا الْقُرْآنَ مَهْجُورًا

And the Apostle cried out: O my Lord! surely my people have treated this Quran as a forsaken thing.

Why Music is forbidden in Islam ?
The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Among my ummah there will certainly be people who permit zinaa, silk, alcohol and musical instruments…” (Narrated by al-Bukhaari ta’leeqan, no. 5590; narrated as mawsool by al-Tabaraani and al-Bayhaqi. See al-Silsilah al-Saheehah by al-Albaani, 91).

Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: This is a saheeh hadeeth narrated by al-Bukhaari in his Saheeh, where he quoted it as evidence and stated that it is mu’allaq andmajzoom. He said: Chapter on what was narrated concerning those who permit alcohol and call it by another name.

Narrated Abu Umama: Allah’ Messenger ﷺ said, ‘Whoever recites ayat Al-Kursi at the end of every obligatory prayer, nothing but death

Ayatal-Kursi
Ayatal-Kursi

[1] will prevent him from entering paradise
[2].’ An-Nasa-ie reported it sahih. At-Tabarani has the addition: 'and (Surah Al-Ikhlas) قل هو الله احد

[1] It means that the only thing preventing him from entering Paradise is his presence in this world, i.e he shall enter paradise immediately after his death.

[2] The precedence accorded to Ayatal-Kursi is deu to the fact that it contains the Foundation of the Divine Names and Qualities (of Allah) and this it is descriptive of His Oneness and Uniqueness, which He loves the most. Surat Al-Ikhlas also carries the same attributes. [Bulugh Al-Maram 258]
