The less fear of Allah, one has the more disobedient he becomes to Him. As the fear of Allah decreases, one becomes the bolder in committing sins.
As the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) were intensely fearful of Allah, they were afraid of committing even very minor sins.
After the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), with the passage of time, the fear of Allah went on decreasing gradually and a stage came when even the most grievous sins looked ordinary to the people.
It is, therefore, essential that the fear of the Majesty and Supreme of Allah is created in people’s mind.
Anas said: “You indulge in (bad) actions which are more insignificant to you than a hair while we considered them at the time of Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to be great destroying sins".
[Ref. Shabeer Al Haj-Bukhari 11/283, Ahmad 157, (3/3) and 470].
There are seven most destructive sins. What are they? In the Two Sahis of Al-Bukhari and Muslim, it is recorded that Abu Hurayrah said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him said,
»اجْتَنِبُوا السَّبْعَ الْمُوبِقَاتِ «
“Shun the seven great destructive sins.”
The Companions inquired, ‘Oh Allah's Messenger! What are they?’ He said,
“(They are:) To join others in worship along with Allah in worship (Shirk), to kill the life which Allah has forbidden except for a just cause, magic, to consume Riba (interest and usury), to consume an orphan's wealth, to turn away from the enemy and flee from the battlefield when the battle begins, and to accuse chaste women, who never even think of anything that would tarnish their chastity and are good believers.”
[Al-Bukhari 2767, – Fat’h-ul-Bari 5:462, Muslim (89) 1:94, An-Nasaie (3671), Abu Dawud (2874)].
Associating anything with Allah in worship i.e., committing an act of Shirk, sorcery, killing of one whom Allah has declared inviolable without a just cause, devouring the property of an orphan, the eating of usury and interest (Riba), fleeing from the battlefield and accusing chaste believing women, who never even think of anything touching their chastity.
These are seven most destroying sins.
All the sins mentioned in the Hadith are major sins but Shirk is the greatest of all.The reason behind this is that it will never be pardoned, and one who commits it and died on it without the true repentance to Allah, will abide in Hell-Fire for all eternity.
So, far as the other major sins are concerned with Allah, He may forgive them if He so wills; otherwise one who is guilty of such sins will have to suffer the torments of Hell-Fire.He will, however, be sent to Jannah after suffering the punishment if he is a Muslim.
May Allah protect us from these heinous destructing sins and destroying evils and keep us safe from the grievous punishment of Hell-Fire! Aameen
