Salam
Akhleikum, I wanted to know if it's really haram to talk to guys?
Because I don't really see in which way speaking and laughing with guys
can lead to fornication if no one has real feelings and if we both know
that nothing's gonna happen?
Walaikum Assalaam Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuhu,
In Islam we are not allowed to have vain and casual talk with non mehram.
Rasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “Whenever a non-mahram man and woman meet in seclusion, Shaytaan definitely is the third one joining them.” [Tirmidhi]
What this hadith means is that Shaytaan arouses their passions and incites them to commit evil.
Please see verses 30-31 in Surah 24 of the Holy Quran, which gives the meaning of:
{Tell the believing men to lower their gaze and be modest. That is purer for them. Lo! Allah is Aware of what they do. And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and be modest, and to display of their adornment only that which is apparent, and to draw their veils over their bosoms, and not to reveal their adornment save to their own husbands or fathers or husbands’ fathers, or their sons or their husbands’ sons, or their brothers or their brothers’ sons or sisters’ sons, or their women, or their slaves, or male attendants who lack vigor, or children who know naught of women’s nakedness. And let them not stamp their feet so as to reveal what they hide of their adornment. And turn unto Allah together, O believers, in order that ye may succeed.}
Laughing, Talking, Joking with Non-Mehrams is not a Hijab;
Some girls assume that since they are properly covered, it’s okay for them to sit around and talk, laugh, joke, etc. with the men, but that’s not right, even if he is ‘the Shaikh’.
Allaah says: “… then be not soft in speech, lest he in whose heart is a disease should be moved with desire, but speak in an honorable manner.”
[al-Ahzaab:32]
So talk to them when there is a specific need, and in a manner that is not necessarily rude, yet it is polite but firm.
It is haraam for a man or woman to listen to each others words with enjoyment, for fear of fitnah (temptation).There is no such thing as “we’re just friends”. Talking to non-Mahrams is wrong even if it is through the internet or telephone.That is why in Islam anything that leads to haraam is also haraam.
Abu Huraira narrated from the Prophet (peace be upon him) who said "Allah has written for the children of Adan their share of ‘zina’which he commits inevitably. The ‘zina’ of the eyes is the sight (to gaze at a forbidden thing), the ‘zina’ of the tongue is the talk, and the inner self wishes and desires and the private parts testify all this or deny it.” (Sahih Bukhari)
"The fornication of the two eyes is an evil glance. The fornication of the two ears is the obscene talk. The fornication of the tongue and hand is the touch and grasp. And the fornication of the two feet is the steps taken towards evil. The heart desires and longs and the private parts abide with or does contrary to it”. (Mishkat ul Masabih, Abu Dawood)
Allaah says:
“Do not (even) come close to fornication, for it is an indecency, and its way is evil.”
(Surah Israa:32)”
May Allah guide us to the straight path.
Ameen
